that looks lovely! after the first run on my 2015 Classic with the small fish tail 'silencer' I don't think its stupidly loud, but it does make old men turn their heads about 100 yards in front! in 39 years or riding, I've had a lot of bikes, and never got pulled yet for a 'noisy' exhaust. With no clear guidelines at the MOT station, who is to say what it too loud?

pd110961, when it come to noise, most people are not offended by the noise from a big single or twin, which are probably only doing 4000 rpm, and it is a low pitched sound, but they are offended by a 4 cylinder plastic missile with a race can, which someone takes up to 12000rpm before changing up, and sounds like someone torturing a cat with a combination of hot irons and high voltage electricity.

RocketRR's bike, I like that. That's the kind of look I'm after.

Here https://soundcloud.com/jefrs/thumpup we have my '50s Free-Flow' recorded from some 6-in above the silencer, pocket recorder in pannier. I know from using my 'loud rock band' record setting that this is about 90dBA (at that distance, quieter further away) because I use an iPhone dB meter app called SPLnFFT for bands. Rock bands generally play at about 110dBA, from quiet at 85dBA to an ear-splitting 135dBA

Thanks KC1961 I am really enjoying the Gt and I done quite a bit since those pictures. At present the twin seat is being recovered as per the 60's Gt in grey with white trim plus I am fitting stainless breather holes in the side panel. I have also just ordered the new chain guard and electric cover plate from here.I will post a new picture in a month or so as I have other plans too.

This is regarding loud-ish exhausts in general.

I have found that people generly react well to my Bullet even though it is quite loud. I have even had a neighbour, who isn't a biker, come up to me and say "It's really nice to hear a proper bike for a change, I hate all those noisy 2 strokes and superbikes but yours is lovely". I expect it helps to have a self-imposed curfew and I never even start the bike after about 22:00. Generaly riding around town I get grins and thumbs-ups.

There is one situation where I think a louder exhaust is a problem, and it can be a big problem. If you are sitting on a Motorway in a steady stream of traffic the car behind you gets the full force of it at a constant speed; this can wind them right up and I have had them deliberately overtaking me in the same lane to get ahead... not good. For Motorway use I think a quiet exhaust is essential.

Cars are soundproofed so the only way to hear your loud exhaust is if they're tailgating. When that happens I let the BMW overtake and go away.

1950s Bulleteer, I have been a senior IAM observer (motorcycle) for nearly 20 years now and also a Police approved Bikesafe instructor, if you are being overtaken in the same lane then you are riding too far to the left, you have as much right to be on the road as the cars, make the lane your own and let the cars overtake correctly that way if they get too close you have a safety space on your left to move into.
