I have an Electra EFI that does not have any keys - a long story that I won't bore you all with. However, to put minds at rest it's not a stolen bike (bought from our hosts in November).

I now have a new lock set for the bike which I thought was remarkably cheap at just over 40 quid. The problem is; how do I remove the old filler cap without a key? Does anyone have any experience of this problem and how to solve it please?

Buy a set of jiggler keys to undo the lock, BUT do not EVER carry them on you when out and about, because if stop searched you could be charged with "going equipped."

This is another 'Learn something new every day' experience. Jiggler keys to (no doubt) be 'jiggled' and so much more professional looking than a screwdriver and hammer!

No you didn't. You gave us an address. I converted it to a link by waving my magic wand over it and covering it with fairy dust so that everyone didn't have to do the copy and paste into the browser thingy... I simply thought it might be more convenient.

At this time of year, I couldn`t be bothered. I would take it to a locksmith. I would be wary of working over a steel petrol tank incase there was a spark. These days, if you blow yourself up you could be treated as a terrorist.

Thanks for the replies. In the end I chaindrilled round the lock and chiselled the metal away that retained the lock in the cap. The lock mechanism then popped out when I held the tank upside down and pressed the cap on to the tank. New cap and locks now fitted.

The lock it the weak point so always drill the middle out of that, start small and move up until you can pull all the tumblers out. What is left of the lock will turn or pull out then and you can turn what is left to unlock. If you are carful and can get the bits you can put a new lock core in the old part
