Difference in attitude, Rochester 0, Weatherby's Harelston 1, Weatherbys could not have been more helpful!
I like the registration to pick through the MOT history on line, my 'new' bike missed 2 years, then failed in October on needing a new rear disc & front tyre passing 3 weeks later.

I bought a 2011 C5 from my local RE dealer who did adhere to the terms of the 3 months warranty and sorted a couple of issues but isn't very helpful when it comes to answering any technical queries. His response is that as mine was manufactured before 2013 I should telephone Watsonian - who, like our hosts, are actually very helpful. However, I have heard this pattern repeated for other RE owners. MotoGB either dispensed with the services of a lot of the Watsonian dealers or they themselves didn't want to carry on, and the newly appointed dealers don't want to know about anything imported before 2013. So Hitchcocks get all my business.

Mine 2015 came with a 2-year Royal Enfield warranty. Dealership Hayballs actually pointed out that the RE come with a factory warranty whereas the chinese bikes they also sell only with a form of warranty from their UK importer. Is this a new thing since Watsonian?

Point though, a new "new" bike doesn't have a registration until after it's registered which happens after you've bought it. That happens before delivery/collection which gives you time to get it insured. Insurers will quote on an unregistered new bike but can't cross their eyes or dot their tees before they get the reg.

Yeah, well Bennets can stuff it!

(me) I'd like to register a new bike, heres the vin Number

(Bennets) We don't insure on frame numbers anymore

(me) But I can't register it until it's insured???

(Benny's) Sorry, we need a reg number to insure you

(me)So you are telling me that you can't insure any brand new bikes that have not been registered?

(bumholes) That seem's to be the case Sir!

I had to get the RE dealer to insure Thunderbolt on his fleet so he could register it, so When I got my 'Brand new bike', I was already the second owner. I don't do Bennets anymore, I'm with carole crash! YAY!

I still don't do Bennets anymore (mark 2)

(me) I'd like to change on=e of the bikes on my policy

(Bennets) Certainly Sir, which bike do you wish to change?

(me) I need to remove my EFI reg number SOD 001 Y and add my RE Meteor Minor

(Benny's) Sorry, you wish to add a what???

(me) Meteor Minor from 1959.

(Bumholes) I'm sorry, I can't find a 'Meteor Minor' on our list?

(me) That's not a problem is it, it is an older motorcycle.

(bumholes) I am afraid that if it's not on our list, we can't insure you I'm afraid Sir

(me) Bennets... be afraid, be very afraid!

Still with Carole Crash, and very, very happy!

When you buy a new vehicle the dealer will allocate a reg number. The insurer will insure it against that reg number and the description of the make and model etc. Once you have the certificate or proof of insurance the dealer can then register it with the dvla. Most new cars come with a a period of free insurance so the hassle of it all is taken away from you.
