This must be the place..............MCA (motor cycles anonymous)?

Its been 4 weeks since my latest purchase, a '91 500 Bullet. Two days after doing the deal on ebay, I jumped on a plane for a well earned break, safe in the knowledge that I had paid for it to be delivered after my return. Nothing happened my first week back excepting a phone call to the garage to get the ball rolling. Tuesday this week I had a call from the delivery guy giving me 40 mins notice of its arrival. I havn't had time to even look at it properly yet but did notice a couple of period mods, magneto ignition, amal carb and chronometric speedo. It's been off the road for atleast a couple of years, MOT expired in 2013 so I'm expecting some work to do. It will not be a restoration as I believe that such a bike has a history to tell, each and every scratch/mark/dent/bodge adding to its character. It will probably turn out as an 'oily rag' bike, maintained correctly. Now where did I put those imperial spanners and the adjustable hammer? Watch this space for countless silly questions.

Cheers

Welcome! Your bike sounds interesting what with the magneto conversion and all. Are you sure it's a 1991 bike, I thought the 500 started in 1993? There may be some paperwork with it that explains what a previous owner has done with it! Maybe you could post some pictures? In any case, you're in the right place,

According to the log book, 31st March 1991, matching frame and engine numbers. No changes show up on HPI either

Good, that means it's not a dodgy Indian back street cobble up, we've seen too many of those in the past! Any pics? If you look down the recent Messages you'll see "Scaly's Guide to posting" (or similar title,) in which he gives handy hints on doing more sophisticated Posts!

Mark, they definitely did 500cc jobs before 1993, my Bullet was correctly papered and registered in 1992. Also if you look at our hosts parts books online they stock spares for 500s imported to the UK as "Classic" models before 1993. Swesty, you are on the right forum for information regarding these machines. Just ask and you'll be amazed at the quality and depth of the responses you'll get.. Ian

You're all right, 1991 seems to have been the first year, don't know why 93 stuck in my head, perhaps that's when I first saw one!
