The 50's silencer makes quite a racket as its barking echoes between cottages going uphill through sleepy villages but going by the big cheesy grins on dog walkers, lawn manicurists and hedge tenders, they don't mind at all

I don't bother with the kIck starter any more, or with the bi-starter. It's easier to just open the throttle a little. I always pull the clutch lever in, a habit I've had for years; it saves the starter turning the gearbox shafts. Mine seems particularly recalcitrant when using the kick start; I concluded in the end it isn't worth the hassle. Other machines will no doubt differ. BTW the Goldie I had started a damn site more easily than my C5 does but it did have a concentric; I kept the GP as an ornament ...

My mate's Goldie had a 'reversed' A/R lever, A was R and R was A and he always left it in the "R" fully advanced position in case someone tried to steal it. It would either break their leg or send them over the bars. We were in the pub watching some cove try that, matey stopped us dashing out to give him a drubbing, he landed in the ditch in 4-ft of muddy water.

Oh how we laughed, nearly as much as the time the ferret popped up out of a chap's shirt and a woman stood up, screamed and fainted all in one go.
