the Mrs went on the abck of the new C5 at the weekend.. thilst the separate single rear seat looks comfy, she thinks its not great (but willing to give it another try)..

IN THE Hitchcocks catalogue its part number 597447.. I have just spoken to them (very helpful as always) and they say the 91435 dual seat is a direct replacement for both and is much better.. has anyone done this themselves on here?

My wife said that too. I tried that 91435 dual seat. Result is pilot end is higher than the split seat and the pillion is thinner and slightly narrower, it went back before actually fitting. The C5 frame pillion seat we have is probably the better of the two.

On my 2011 C5 I fitted the rear carrier 92740 and pillion seat 91402 supplied by Mr.H but as it comes its 2" too high so I have modified the front bracket and also lowered the springs at the back. You also have to fit a footrest set and as the frame is undrilled you have to (very carefully!) drill a 4mm hole each side to accept the locating lugs. These are so that the footpeg doesn't rotate and suddenly turn downwards which would be very dangerous. My wife finds the pillion very comfortable and as its quite low she can get her leg over - a problem when you get older I can tell you! The other advantage is that it takes 2 mins to remove the pillion seat and you have a luggage carrier. If you would like to have a look at these images it might give you an idea of the finished conversion. If you are in the W.Midlands I'd be only too happy to meet up and let you and your wife sit on it to see what you think.

Having covered a hundred miles non-stop on a C5 with the standard seat I’d say it was the most uncomfortable seat I’ve used. It was agony! The old-style Redditch seat is, in my opinion, a huge improvement.

Nigel..not sure I like the look of the seat, BUT I love the exhaust! did you fit a power commender? where did you get the exhaust?

If the Mrs still doesn't like the seat I may look at extending the seat carrier backwards and having a custom pad built .. I've only done 50 miles in one run so don't know what my perch will be like.. so perhaps the dual seat may be better afterall? what is the returns policy of our hosts re a seat?

presto - the springs on my standard C5 solo seat have gone and a pair of steel brackets fabricated, lowering the rear as fas as onto the frame of the pillion for my duck's disease legs. Far more comfortable and more feel of the road, no more pogo. The bike has a swinging arms, it doesn't need a sprung seat. Much better!

nigel - the current C5 comes with rear pegs as standard even with just the solo seat, which is attached by a big rubber bush mounted aft of the (unused) node clip on the frame (does that make sense???). The springs are really just there for show, the bike has more than adequate rear bouncers.

I had an hour in the garage last night.. removed the rear seat and frame, and remounted the seat using the 2nd set of rear mounting bolts, resulting in the seat being moved back about 2".

the Mrs tried it, but said that she was stll willing to try it in the original position. At least I now knpw its relatively simple to move about OR create a new seat base (wider? Longer?) and have it foamed / gelled and recovered if necessary.

Yes I found the seat too high, 28-in legs. It is now dropped as far as the pillion frame will allow on hefty steel brackets for my 15 stone. So its back is now some 40mm above the mudguard. Some sticky-back 3M sill protector rubber protects the leatherette from cutting. The seat is mainly attached by the big rubber bush, the seat springs are there for looks. The seat will stay firmly in place without springs or brackets (you can try it like that just by releasing the bottom of the springs) but will chew the leatherette so get some some softening in there.
