2cvandy - my complaint was re linked brakes, ABS being a good thing.

Some Guzzi have linked brakes, some don't. Big heavy cruiser bikes don't actually stop very well whatever they're fitted with. Cars have ABS but don't handle like a bike, if you lock the back end of the car you don't slide off. Cars have linked brakes. On a bike sometimes you need to choose which end to brake with according to WTF is happening.

jefrs, what makes you think that lorries have poor brakes? Ever driven one?

Above 70mph brakes don't do much? Where did that idea come from?
Motorcycles are reaching 200mph going down the mountain during the TT races, and have to slow rather rapidly at bottom.

That's the end of new road legal trials bikes then.

I was of course referring to heavy cruisers with linked brakes, not TT racers which don't. Yes, I have a lorry licence, it you hit the brakes hard on the motorway, not very much happens compared to a car, you have to think ahead, even with ABS, and ABS is good.

Braking a bike can be quite different to braking a car, there are occasions when using the rear alone is preferable to using the front at all, I expect you've noticed.

I had a Transalp with linked brakes for a bit. The front brake operated all the front brake pistons and one of the rear ones. The back brake operated both the back pistons and (I think) one of the front ones. The system seemed to work ok. I never had occasion to test the abs system but why you you would want such a system on a 125 I don't know.
Of course, if people learned to drive/ride properly.........

Here is the high light of the artical if you dont wish to read the whole lot.(ABS

This is one most people have heard of; from 1/1/2016 all new-model bikes over 125cc will need ABS, while smaller bikes must have either ABS or a combined brake system. As with the rest of the rules, there’s a year of grace for carry-over models, but come the start of 2017 everything must be in-line with the regulations to be allowed to be sold.
