Hi.Has anyone on here fitted the performance cams,valves,power commander etc on their Continental Gt? If so have you had problems with the tickover? Mine goes up to 1600 rpm when the engine is hottest.Adjusting it down results in stalling during warm up (need to hold throttle on). Have had it mapped locally (near 32bhp at rear wheel!) but still the tickover problem. Considering the carb conversion now but a bit unwilling to spend more money.Be interested to know if anyone else had encountered the same problem.

Hi Andrew, not sure what you have fitted. Have you had your CGT (is this the new model 535?) remapped and are considering the performance kit with PCv or have you fitted the extras?

I have had cars remapped by Viezu, current diesel Antara to stage 1 about 280bhp (2.2 turbo diesel) and runs sweet as a nut. My C5 has PCv from H which is mapped by H from their dyno work on their bike for free-flow 50s exhaust plus K&N (which are fitted). Idle is perfect and power delivery much better. I've set the idle 1100-1200rpm and not much variation hot or cold, it only needs the bistarter when actually cold starting, otherwise just open throttle.

H suggest some 34bhp is possible from their kits but do note race/performance engines often do have problems idling.


Suggest taking it back to your remap chap and have him fix the idle part of the map.

Hello.Thanks for the reply.My bike is the new model Gt on a 2014 plate.I originally fitted the full motad system,K and N filter and power commander from our hosts.All was fine using their supplied map.The problems started when I went a stage further and fitted their cams and performance valves and valve springs.The dyno chap was impressed with the output but he thought it may be the manifold pressure sensor causing the idle fluctuations.Basically because of the different cams.It's not un rideable by any means though.It could be that i'll have to fit the Hitchcocks carb conversion

Check the throttle position sensor is set to zero on the PC.

You can adjust the timing on the PC so you should be able to alter the timing around tick over to stabilise it.

I think a Carb would be a big backward step

Presumably you'd already tried the 92018/10 map written for the performance valve and cam kit beforehand?

Hi Andrew, I have seen this problem with setting a steady idle on a couple of GT's now when setting them up on the Dyno. If you would like to send an e-mail to Hitchcock's explaining the problem we should be able to sort it out.



First thing to always check will be the throttle position sensor is calibrated correctly on the PCV.



Sometimes we have found it just needs slightly different set up on the power commander adjusting the fuelling on closed throttle. They should be able to do this at the dyno centre you used or alternatively if you were to send a copy of the PCV map they set-up for your bike we can just adjust that. We can then send you it back with some small adjustments which involve adding and taking away some fuel on only the 0% column.

I notice that you said the dyno tester said that the exhaust sensor may be affecting the running of the bike.
I think our host suggest removing the exhaust sensor and blanking it off when fitting a power commander.

I strongly suspect he's referring to the MAP sensor (Manifold Absolute Pressure) mounted on the injector body, not the Lambda, which as you mention after fitting the PCv is removed and the resultant hole blanked off.

On a stock bike it's the Lambda located in the downpipe that supplies the ECU with post combustion information. Any mixture change occurring after say fitting a free flow exhaust is immediately detected and the ECU adjusts the fueling to bring the AFR back to exactly the same pre determined level as when the stock exhaust was fitted.

If you fit a PCv with fuelling determined by a specific fuel/ignition map and then change something a new map is required to get things back to optimum by compensating for that one change.

Andrew, and wot ric said re 92018/10, you were fine until, "I went a stage further and fitted their cams and performance valves and valve springs". You need the other map from Hitchcocks for that, give them a bell and they'll send you the mapping for the PCv. The PCv came with cable to install it from laptop but you need to download software from DynoJet to do that - as detailed on the box and destruction leaflet.
