Something not entirely different - more mid-range - having noticed a tiny dribble of oil from the breather pipe in the air box, which is condensation of oil vapour rather than anything wrong but not really a good thing to feed into the K&N, I did purchase an small vent filter from a well known car bits and bicycle emporium. I attached directly to the spigot got even more improved mid-range, it is now on the end of the original pipe tucked up under the seat.
Also - any injector's air box wants 'still air', it does not want it being pulsed by a 500cc cylinder; at 1200rpm it is playing a 20Hz note into the air box, i.e. "E0" off the bottom of a piano, which will set up a harmonic wave down the inlet, possibly out of phase with the induction, and not doing any good. The motor is supposed to be sucking in 500cc on nice clean cold air, not 500cc of hot muck recently displaced from the crankcase. A Nanny device, only Nanny's gone mad and needs to be bricked up in the attic.
