I can only comment on the efi model. I commute 80 miles round trip into central Leeds 2 or 3 times a week. 17,000 miles of it now. It is plenty fast enough for busy A road and dual carriageway use, brilliant at filtering, ticks over reliably and does 75 to the gallon without fail. Other bikes would be just as good but I like the style of the RE and every journey is an event, not a chore. There is no price to pay for that in terms of practicality, but try before you buy.on

So the clutch cable has been replaced. The indian cables have known issues but the english cable was a pig to fit because it is double the diameter and very little slack. Cables are consumable service parts like brake pads and oil change. Only DNF so far has been running out of petrol because the poor quality indian fuel warning lamp had blown: I keep a can for the lawnmower, finger trouble and sorted. Gradually replacing all the bulbs. LED pilots, Philips H4, etc, replace with better. Same with corroded aluminium original easy-blow fuses.

MartinB if your EFi's new exhaust starts bluing (too hot) then it has weak mix, which the PCv fixes. Mine blued and was making loud crackle-bangs on the over-run which is when cold air from the pulsed air system hits an overly hot exhaust, just like an air leak.

I've done the sports car thing with a pair of TR7s and a 20yo AMG money pit - £14,000 for a new ecu meant BER. Current car was nearly new, reliable 4x4 SUV, tweaked to around 580Nm 280bhp and boring.
