Was out on Bhaji today, have been a bit busy with work.
So, a bit of update.
The REOC took ages to respond to a dating request and sent back a really unhelpful sniffy sounding letter which said they couldn't accurately date it.End of. No additional notes to help. I know the records are incomplete, but it was less than helpful.
So anyway tried to get insurance on chassis/engine number, none of the usual classic bike insurers wanted to know. So I got Steve Parker in Southend to come and collect, and he MOT'd the bike, then trailered it back to me. He declared it all sound.
So I submitted a V55 with everything I had with the bike, and lo, it came back with a 1977 registration plate, no bother.
So now Bhaji, who was reputedly registered in Uttar Pradesh URX9179 now has TNT 153R. Which means it will be zero road tax in a couple of years time.
Bennetts wouldn't update their DVLA database so no insurance from them, but Footman James offered me agreed value, legal etc for about 100 quid a year.
It makes me laugh. Brakes are pointless weight, even with the tied twin leading shoe mod. 4 gears and 3 neutrals, glowworm lights and a leaking fuel cap. It is smooth though, and seems happy to potter at 45mph even running in.
Do wave if you see me, but it won't get much use, just to the pub and back, and occasionally to the cafe/museum at Battlesbridge.

Glad you finally cut through all the red tape and got the bike on the road. For any kind of use beyond light recreational, the brakes and lights can all be sorted to perform a bit more respectably. I believe 1977 was the first year Indian Bullets were officially imported into the UK, was it by Slater Brothers of Laverda fame? A.

Hi Essex Lad I see your bike parked at John Parker Motorcycles back in June when I took my sportsman down for its MOT Looked good especially in that white & gold.

Well, nearly a hundred miles now, and a reassuring light mist of oil on the head, but sadly no oil drips on the garage floor. Starts first kick (but needs choke?). Need to sort out a mid range fluffing when opening throttle wide open. Mrs Essex Bird has been on the back of Bhaji to go to the pub and has indicated that this is an acceptable form of entertainment, and a passably hilarious form of transport. So that is the biking budget signed off for the year.
I have decided to leave the supplied engine bars off, and the modern mirrors mean the supplied cover doesn't fit.
Anyone got a clue about the leaking fuel cap? Seems to fit Ok, maybe just get a seal for it.
When is the Hollyville Cafe meeting?
