The other issue which I don't think has been raised is the old one of Indian metallurgy - the steel (or alloy) copes when everything is set up in the factory manner, but once we start on the upgrade route, eg getting brakes fettled to work better than factory would ever have managed, this loads extra stresses on the un-modded components further up the line. Hi Adrian

Agreed. Over the winter (2015/16) I'll probably draw up a new lever, and get it motored up in Unobtanium.

Your cam pivot appears to move in parallel with the brake rod not at 90 degrees as on the standard, as the brake is applied the normal arrangement would still allow movement of the cam housing up and down in your arrangement the rod could pull it in one direction when it wants to go in the other perhaps this movement is shearing the teeth off? anyway just an idea.

Hi Vince

That's an interesting observation - although I'm now pretty much convinced that it's simply slippage of the hub, in the adjustment slot, that has seen off some teeth.

Once I've got the correctly dimensioned 'figure of eight' piece in place, I'll put a dab or two of Inspectors' Lacquer on the assembly and look for any further unwanted movement of the lever on the cam.
