There is no reason to hide things. In France, the pumps will usually say about 4 things...

Gazole (diesel)

Sans Plomb 98 (unleaded 98)

sans plomb 95 (unleaded 95)

95 E10 (95 with 10% ethanol)

seems to be upside down?

So with all the major oil companies operating all over europe as well as the UK, why do they not do this here? Cos they can get away with a nice little earner, Not having to have separate delivery systems for 95 and 95 E10 !

My Father recently conducted an experiment, taking pieces of a smashed fibreglass fuel tank an placing them in jars containing uleaded with ethanol, another with just ethanol and another with just acetone. After over a month, only the one in the acetone had degraded.

The supergreen pump at my local Texaco here in Barnstaple still has the BS number(no ethanol)and when I asked the manager assured me it was still non-ethanol petrol. I think this is dependent on where the petrol comes from. Ethanol petrol (including supergreen) has an EN number on the pump and the normal low octane petrol here certainly does.

This thread is wandering away from the subject, which was about Ethanol! Tesco Momentum contains Ethanol as does most if not all widely available Premium and Super fuels unless you search for special brands. That Ethanol de-laminates fibreglass by attacking the resin used in it's construction there is no doubt.

Ethanol in fuel will attack the fibreglass of a GT Continental tank – and cause (very) expensive damage unless the tank has been treated with a suitable sealer. I wouldn’t be as pessimistic as Mark about how long a sealer will protect the tank – my experience is that they will be good for (much) longer than 12 months.

The only real successful way is to use a new tank like on my sportsman its steel lined inside but has a fibreglass outer shell making it look and feel like its all fibreglass. They are available or could be made by a custom shop to look like the original but at what cost is the question.
