Hi Simon I'm going the way you suggested with the cork plates of which you said I'd need 3, however when I dismantled I find I have four, three of one sort and one of another.
Am I right in thinking the dished plates should both face into the centre of the basket? The last dished plate was facing towards the gearbox and it has now worn as shown on the photos, will this need to be replaced? Because if it is supposed to face into the basket it doesn't look as though it will cause a problem, I'll be thankful for all comments as this, is my first 500 Enfield .Thanks

first dish plate should face outward from gearbox, then the flat plates in a alternating order.

Strange looking plate, is that an optical illusion or is the flat part dished as well? Clearly it's a bigger clutch than the one on my machine which only has three friction plates but I'd get rid of the ones with the fewer number of sections and keep the one that looks like the cork ones. I didn't soak the plates over night and have had no issue with them. The cork is pretty tough and bonded on so a full chain case should suffice. Mauri is right the dished plates are first and last and the first one on faces out and the last one faces inwards. then the cover plate. Looking forward to hearing you impressions, I was out on the Bullet today for the first time in a while (I've been cheating on it with the new V50 Monza) but it went beautifully and as usual the clutch was excellent. Regards S:)

Oh just finished reading your first post. If that plate is as dished overall as it looks I would be tempted to replace it although you could try tapping it flat with a hide hammer on a flat wooden bench.

Simon thanks for your reply, have cleaned up all the clutch parts, redressing the plate tangs where required and received the new plates from our Hosts with the usual next day delivery great, the plates were already presoaked in oil and in sealed bags, also when I measured all the old plate setup against the new plates with calipers the new setup was thinner giving me almost 2.5mm more clearance, had the pushrods out cleaned and polished them getting rid of some tiny burrs.
Put everything together with new light springs all round and new ATF and adjusted as per instructions, and it feels lovely nice, light and smooth, it doesn't seem to slip or drag at standstill with engine running and trying the gears. As soon as I road test will report back. New V50 Monza eh 😎 bet that sounds nice and completely different to the bullet.

Great stuff, I'm sure you'll find a considerable improvement in the overall operation of the clutch but look forward to hearing from you after the road test. Took the Monza for a couple of hundred mile run yesterday and was delighted with it overall. Shaft drive takes a bit of getting used to with the inline engine and all that but smooth and surprisingly quick. Managed 60 mpg over the trip around 5 mpg less than I washroom to expect but perhaps i was using a rather leaden welly.
