Scaly, your air filter should have a plate over it that traps the element against the toolbox, no sagging then! There should be a long hexagon spacer retaining the plate in position, this has a tapped hole in either end and when screwed down against the plate the outer end takes the screw that retains the toolbox lid. If you say what I mean! Parts list shows it, http://www.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/pa ... _Dual_Seat_

I did wonder about the plate but assumed you'd just removed it for some reason! If you have been running it without the plate fitted that filter won't actually do anything, no matter how well the placcy box supports it...

Hi Mark!

I got the plate and everything, had just taken it out to check if the air filter was clean, and found the dessert pot!

will take Kevin out tomorrow, to the suzuki shop at Pontarlier. I will need some oil soon anyway. Do these like old fashioned 20w50 if I can find it?

Will keep you all informed!

Yep, 20/50 is what they were designed to run on. As to your lack-of-power problem don't ignore the advance retard springs and possibly the rotor arm as I previously mentioned. The original KLG or Lodge plug will be hard to find as many many other bikes used it at the time and stocks will have been exhausted by now. But second hand ones might be ok if you find them, they were made to a high quality so could be good even after all this time!

I have just spent the day removing and replacing the heads and cylinders on my Super Meteor to cure an oil leak on one cylinder base, also to do a decoke whilst at it, as I was reassembling it a thought occured to me re this thread.

When reassenbling these twins you need to fit the barrels and heads and just put the nuts on around finger tight then fit the manifold before tightening the heads and barrels down not doing this can leave the heads out of line and the manifold will not seal to both heads. Possibly the problem here?.

ooh 'eck, not sure...

I'm going to start with new plugs first just in case.

One good point about being in France is that old Alfa Romeos and Renaults used bike plugs and they are easy to get on french ebay and other sites! Got a set of 4 Lodge HLN and a pair of Champion N5 (Renault 16? ex stock) coming! Didn't break the bank either!
