I'm expecting the cylinder head back soon after having a new exhaust valve seat inserted. I have a gasket set from our hosts, with the copper head gasket etc. I know the torque values too.. my main question is do you all recommend the use of a gasket sealant like blue hylomar or similar for the assembly?

I changed my head gasket recently, (first time attempting anything major). I used one of our hosts composite gaskets with a smear of blue hylomar for good measure. Done a good few miles since and all is well.

I used a copper gasket on a rebuild and got an oil weep from the pushrod side, reassembled with RTV silicone and all ok. Our hosts recommend sealant woth copper gaskests, but not with composite.

I back that up, Pete, use Wellseal on every other joint, have done for years on all my bikes.

I had a great service from Mansfield Engine Centre.. they stipped the exhaust valve out, machined a new seat from blank material, ground in the valve etc, vacuum tested for a good seal for £66 all in!
