What are the tyre pressures (or recommended range) for a 1959 Meteor Minor please?



Practice tomorrow, then Hollyville Sunday morning.

I usually use about 25-28 on the front and 30+ on the rear on my older Twins. It will be a compromise between what the book says, probably too low for modern tyres and roads, and what modern tyre makers recommend, too high for the speed and weight of the bike. Looks very nice, and as I said, I had my first go on a Meteor Minor recently and really liked it. It isn't like a Connie or an Interceptor scaled down, it's very revvy more like two Crusaders, not surprising when you consider the bore and stroke!

Hi Scalyback, Hope all goes well with the delivery of Kevin the Minor, no doubt you will keep us all well posted.

Re tyre pressures, the book says Front 18lbs psi, Rear 22lbs psi and 32lbs psi with a pillion passenger, for both the Meteor and the Minor, but like Mark I tend to run mine a wee bit higher.

As Mark rightly points out, the Minor is not a wee Connie or Inter and it seems much smoother to me, but don't be fooled, it's no lightweight for it's 30 bhp at around 413lbs with only 6" ground clearance.

Mine is a 1958 small frame model, recognisable by the Crusader sized toolboxes with the ignition switch on the left. It is very comfortable to ride and I feel like I am sitting in it rather than on it! and the low seat height of 29" suits a wee 5'6" guy like me

A few years ago in an early Classic Bike Guide (pre Mortons and much better!) well respected journalist Jim Reynolds tested one and was delighted with it's performance, at he end he said "Buy one now before they become expensive" well I think that day is here now!

I bought mine in a derelict condition in 1992, restored it to win the "Best 500 Twin" class at the REOC National Rally at Stow in the Wold in 1994, sold it in 1996, (to get a '59 Connie) and got it back in 2010 on my 65th birthday.

The Connie still lives here in the village about a mile away!
Mark, you may remember seeing it at past rallies, it's the white and chrome one.

Hi Mark, pleased you remembered me, we have been to the Torbay, North East and the Yellow Belly so far this year.





We will be at the International next weekend, providing my wife gets out of hospital in time, she had a heart pacemaker fitted last Tuesday.



Will be as usual, travelling by campervan with the bike on the trailer.
I take it you will be there?

Dick, yes, I'll be there from Thursday afternoon as I'm bringing some stuff to autojumble which my long suffering wife will transport in the car. I'll be on the Mk1 Interceptor as it did so well in the rain at the Interceptor Rally it deserves a bit of sunshine!
