Hi all, I am off to france not on my bullet but my 1995 900 diversion next week. I do not have European breakdown cover on my insurance and I thought the quote from the AA was a joke so declined. Anyone know a good company that will cover a 20 year old bike at a reasonable price. I am not prepared to cancel and restart my insurance btw. I very much doubt my old workhorse will give me any trouble but sod's law... Thanks - Rusty

Your BIG worry is you need repatriation cover in case you are injured whilst riding a motorcycle abroad. That can cost £20000 if you don't have insurance cover.

Try a google search for bike foreign cover, I found a company that will insure you for a year for foreign travel, and I believe it was less than £100. Cant remember the name, and of course I've only recently deleted the shortcut off my Ipad! If it is on my couter I will post it here.

Do not forget your EHIC card though it is not advisable to rely on it totally as the cover is quite basic. A quick google look came up with this that might be worth exploring

EHIC Card. Check. Spare bulbs. Check. Breathaliser. Check. Reflective sticker on helmet. Check. All other legal requirements. Check. As of next year bikes will have to add a fluorescent jacket - wearing not compulsory. Don't start me off on the amount of roundabouts and road furniture around towns out there either. Still great biking though. The AA quoted me about £70 for June and £130 in July for breakdown cover. It seemed a lot at the time but maybe I will just stump up - papasmurf has got me all worried.

Rustyman you should be worried. My wife and I had had repatriation for decades on our household insurance, until three days before we were due to take the motorcycles across to Brittany and I happened the read the latest policy document. They had snuck in NO cover for medical repatriation, if the injuries were due to an accident whilst riding a motorcycle.
So we had at the last moment to find medical repatriation cover quickly.
(The £20000 cost of not having the cover sounds a lot but it could involve private plane charter and a medical team to get you back.)

Would it not be cheaper to upgrade your existing policy? After all they will only be covering for the period until your renewal date.
