I have according to receipts that came with the bike a petrol tap part number 141541, although the one in the book is slightly different, can anyone tell me the reserve position, when off is horizontal facing to rear and on is vertical down, the tap does swivel through 360 degrees.

On mine same Tap. The off position is horizontal across tap both ways - Vertical long end tap facing down is main - Vertical long end the tap facing up is reserve.
