Adam, the mechanic who MOTs all our bikes is VERY strict there is NO problem on low powered sidecar outfits using old style tyres, fitting a rear Avon to a front wheel on a side car is pretty much standard practice on old/low powered outfits. The only reason I can't fit one on the front wheel of my BMW outfit is MOT regs mean it needs a V rated tyre, due to high speed capability of the outfit.

Thanks for that, Papasmurf, I shall stop worrying about it now. I suppose there must be some flexibility as I recall seeing the likes of Austin Sevens and other similar lightweight cars shod with Avon Triple Duty Sidecar tyres.

Is the above-mentioned tyre really a REAR TYRE? Or is it.... a tyre...normally used on the rear but also very appropriate for the front of the sidecar tug?

Adam the Devils Advocate, some years ago some feckin' wouldbe jobsworth asshole failed my Flash & a Box on tyre fitment & would not budge from his stupid position.
No, it was not the SM on the front wheel it was the directional tyre on the sidecar chassis wheel. Now that wheel is neither braked nor driven but the feckwit insisted it should be fitted rear wheel rotation. I buggered off home swapped it in record time & took it back to said feckwit who gave me my MOT pass thing & a load of gob about tyre fitments.
first & only time I went to that twat and that was only because my regular guy was on holiday.

Prob been covered in this thread?
My 500 outfit came from watsonian with the Sidecar Triple duty tyre on the front and the original SM on the back. I'll be swapping the SM for another triple duty on the rear soon,I reckon the SM is good for about 3000 miles............maybe.
The Avon Blurb says the Sidecar triple duty is suitable as a front or rear tyre.
Its slight;y cheaper than the SM too and has loads more tread on it.

I use about 26psi front and around 30 on the rear, there seems to be no official recommendation on pressures.

What I really do need is a steering damper as I am fed up with the head shaking at lowish speeds, is there a damper that will fit a B5 without surgery?

The steering damper commonly used across a wide range of sidecar outfits is a VolkesWagen beetle steering damper.
Track rod ends to suit are available from Demon Tweeks. Alloy brackets to which fit around the left hand suspension leg to attach the damper to are widely available. Attaching the damper to the side car end is a case of winging it.
On one of out sidecars I had to get a nut welded to the chassis, on the other one it was just a case of fitting a 90degree bracket to the Front Upper sidecar attachment.
Ideally the damper should be fitted on the non moving bit of left hand fork leg at an horizontal angle of 45% backwards.
I suggest looking at a few sidecars first with the VW damper fitted.
