Hi folks, I'm taking delivery of a new Battle Green Classic in a couple of weeks.
The first thing I'm looking to do though is to change the awful looking modern tyres for more authentic looking block + rib type. My question is what will be the widest I can go ??

Block and rib type? Not the dreaded square profile Avon Skidmasters sidecar outfit tyres surely! Just don't go there mate, whatever the size, it will only end in tears.

Looking at the rims with spokes it looks like there tubeless, why not try them first and if no joy try Avon road riders as on trail bikes.

springy: If it is anything like the Bullet; there is a wiring harness under there on which even the standard-width tyre will rub in certain conditions; so don`t go any wider, in fact don`t bother changing it at all. Anyone who looks at other peoples tyres and comments that they don`t like the look of them, surely must be bored stiff and needs to get a hobby. I hope this photo works, as I`ve got a new Lenovo computer which I`m still learning to use.

Don't change them! I had my old tyres replaced with a more rounded profile. The bike feels so much better and a lot more 'flexible'. The difference was astonishing.

I just put some Dunlop K81, the old TT100 tyres on my iron classic. They look the part and seem to perform brilliantly.

I followed Petes advice and fitted the K81's last week.. Clearance is adequate and they certainly suit the bikes looks.

Only covered about fifty miles as i've been meddling with the clutch so not really broke in yet but certainly seems sure footed enough across Dartmoor's gravel dressed roads..

Previous to this i had Avon AM26 front and back and whilst a good tyre on dry roads only lasted about 3000 miles on the rear, and to be honest just didn't look quite right..

With reference to several comments about wiring under the rear mudguard. I rerouted that over the mudguard using a couple of spacers to lift the number plate carrier/rear light strut high enough to route the cable underneath it.

Ah missed the NEW classic description.

Is this the 18" rear wheel? If so i think you should make a call or email our host to make certain..

Possible WM 4.00 but ring and check..
