Easy, don't use it!Seriously, I just got hold of a low mileage Yamaha YBR250. What a cracking little bike. It doesn't replace the Bullet but is so much more convenient and easier to ride in traffic for those "nip into town to the shops" trips. The Bullet is now for quality time round the lanes where it's happiest. And it will last longer!

Funnily enough I've just been looking at a Honda 250 CBF for exactly the same reason......... Some might recall that I bought an almost new 2006 Honda CG125 from here last year but I still tend to do more "100-mile +" ride-outs' these days and great though it is the 125 just can't keep on the pace up long hills etc....The 500 Bullet is just about to go on the ramp for the new big-end ( Soon be with you, Mr"Whisperer" ) and 5-speed box and then will go back to B-roads on a Sunday in the Summer....

The advantage of a second bike (mine is a Kawasaki ER6f) you can park it next to the Bullet as I do as a reminder then it has to behave itself

Not sure that would work for me...

I would not be surprised to find that I had woken up to find Tornado surrounded by a pile of smashed up parts if I tried parking another bike there.

I have no idea why I would think that?

Alan, my missus has the Honda CBF250. That's a useful little machine as well.
If you do get one I have a digital copy of the workshop manual (you'll not find a paper copy) Just ask and it's yours.

I bought a bullet exactly because I thought it would last forever on the basis that everything was fixable. On my budget anything japanese/german/italian at some point became too expensive to repair. papasmurf - let us know how your trip goes, there is a lack of adventure and touring stories on this forum but maybe not many of us do trips worth recounting on our enfields (hope to be proven wrong on that one).

My wife and I (along with our daughter... but she was still an embryo) did a fairly hefty trip on my Enfield 3 years ago... maybe I can recount the tail on this forum? It was great!

I probably use my electra X for things it isn't really suitable for. I have done several 350-400 mile trips sometimes on short motorway hops and the only problems that have occurred have been things that could happen to any bike ie dirty fuel and a broken throttle cable. Mind you I did rebuild the engine last year when the original big enď failed, but apparently the upgraded one from our hosts should stop that happening again. If the rally in Norfolk comes off later this year and Im not working I intend riding it there which will be approximately 800 miles over the weekend. Will it break down hopefully not if it does I will repair and continue with the journey
