I was going to replace my chain tensioner nut with Hitchcocks nut with rubber pad. The bolt that holds the tensioner arm will only undo so far before it fouls on the rotor assembly - preventing it undoing fully.
Other than removing the rotor assembly, any other suggestions ?

Sorry, the alternator rotor has to come off, you'll need our hosts' extractor. Just to confuse everybody it's listed in the tools section as MAGNETO PULLER Electra X + EFI (98035), it's NOT for a magneto, it's for the alternator. Someone at the Chennai RE factory hasn't got any idea what a magneto is, so the name has stuck.

Not necessarily Adrian, mine just pulled off.

I needed every removal tool there was plus a rattle gun to remove the engine sprocket nut. Then I managed to get the chain and tensioner not running true which destroyed the clutch hub bearing in minutes. All to cure a rattle I hadn't heard in the first place!

Think I'll take Franks advice and leave well alone. I too was probably trying to do something unnecessary just for the sake of tinkering.

I used a half inch length of suitable neoprene tube, stamped a hole in one side and stretched this over the head of the bolt - such that it formed a rubber pad over bolt head...... much easier than stripping primary drive!

Hi tedmunds.
Plus one on ‘p’s’ suggestion.
I actually bought the Hitchcocks rubber-mounted bolt, found it wouldn’t fit (the rubber being too thick to fit) and did exactly what ‘p’ suggests.
Cheapest fix I ever did and after ~12000kms its still fine.

The neoprene tubing sounds like a good idea, next time I venture inside their.
