I have purchased expensive Haynes manual over the years that had no relationship at all to reality when I have had to do some spanner work on both cars and motorcycles.
I had a problem with a Renault Clio when I was on holiday in Brittany and a garage could not find the engine fitted to the car in any manuals he had, they had to contact Renault HQ.

You had much filings when the forks were flushed of debris the first time before the second fill of oil has been made?
Is there much ware from no oil content?

I'm in Finland. I took the bike for it's first 8000k for servicing (in order to keep the damn warranty) by the licensed dealer here - who went out of business in August 03- assuming they'd checked the fork oil.
Since then I've been doing it myself and with the help of the great lads here in the RE Finland owners' club.
I'm just trying to warn other owners of what they might have, or in my case, not have in their front suspension.
Luckily I did the job in a fully-equipped garage. Other people might not be so lucky.
Also, other owners might like to learn that their forks are dry as a bone.
Thanks all and BR
Matt

I'm clearly not doing well here.
The dealer here went out of business in 2013, not 03.
Have to say she's running like a monster after a big service now though..

Its a chore to remove the fork legs just to change the oil, you would only need to dismantle the leg to change seals just turn them upside down to squirt the old oil out, I think what Matt thought was drain plugs were the bolts that hold the leg together the oil may not be able to get out that way which may explain why he managed to ride the bike ok there may have been oil in the forks all along

Yes thanks for that Les looking though that forum web site and pictures it now makes sense why the poor guy had so much trouble I was thinking conventional bullet forks fill top drain plug at bottom.
