My Enfield Electra X 2005 model is in trouble again. After oiled air filter and a miss fire the miss fire is still a major problem. After a 1 mile run is suddenly started to miss fire very badly it would tick over. Today after a mile run it started to miss fire again after running normally then failed and no spark at the plug. Is it the coil. Suggestions please. Thanks

Have you tried a new plug?
My Electra is a pig to start if there's not enough power in the battery. With empty battery merely putting brake light on can stall the engine. (Battery drains by itself... must add a switch.)

Have you had the tank and seat off? I lost the spark on mine and it turned out to be a wire in the tci unit plug had pulled out, I clipped it back in and all was well

I fitted the host TCI unit and all was well. I cannot work out why it developed a miss fire always after 1 mile of running.

Have taken the coil off. Have faffed about with a multimeter ie put one lead onto each wire and no reading what ever. Is there a correct method for checking

From the manual:-
Ignition coil checking procedure:-
Specification: Resistance,A, between brown to red/white 4 to 5 ohm
B, Between brown to HT lead 13 to 17 kilo ohm

Set multi-meter to resistance mode check to above specs.

caution Brown or white/red to core no connectivity

HT lead working ok. When I connect brown wire to HT screw at the bottom of the coil its very difficult to get a reading. COIL?
