Somebody told me that since I have old bullet, I don't have that drain we are discussing here. Is this correct? Mine is 2001 500cc Iron Barrel

There is only the one pipe from the left side crankcase, just under the barrel..

The drain from the catch can was routed into the air filter.. Awesome design.

Later models had the drain to the timing side and still a pipe to the air filter.. Incidentally I'm think the timing chest was overfilled by tilting the bike, as per Chris D..

GWilly,

I too would like to believe that the leak is because tilting the bike but my concern is its not stopping its 4 days now and it leaks almost a 1/4 liter after like 40-50 minutes of riding. Though, I did refill the engine oil to make sure bike is not short of it because of this leak. Shall I just wait and see if it stops?

I would go back to basics with this breather. The duck bill is obviously not working and the crankcase/oil tank is being pressurised..

Use the original duck bill from inside the catch can and plumb this onto the crankcase breather pipe..

New indian one has either too long a beak, (could be trimmed back to 1mm on the flats) or the rubber is as hard as old boots..

Make sure the breather hole is clear in the oil tank cap or as most of us do have it tightened on the first click only..

I suppose its possible that the oil return hole timing case to oil tank is partially blocked but thats really grasping at straws..

I once connected a manometer to the crank breather just to check what average blowby pressure would be and i think it was around 5-10mbar. really needed to be rigged so check could be made at 60mph but couldn't be arsed..

Most important keep the tank filled about 1/2-3/4 on the dip stick doesn't need any more..

GWilly, yes I bough thsi duck bill from indian seller through eBay. I feel the air coming out of tapered end breather though. I trimmed the tapered end to 1mm too. May be I'll buy a longer duck bill cable. Not sure if that will help. I see the oil start leaking (from the seal behind distributor) as soon as the engine starts

I suppose its possible that the breathing is now ok but the damage has already been done.

Sounds like the gasket has blown and will need replacing, also the seal on the shaft..

Parts nos 3 and 6.

Parts are just pennies but a time consuming pain in the neck job you could have done without..

I just ordered these parts from our host. So, I just need to remove timing cover and then how I get to the distributor gasket? Are there any online links where I can read or video for this procedure? I have Snidal Manual but don't know how much help is in there regarding this. I just don't want to messup anything else ;-)

It is possible that your old breather was working well and the duckbill isn't resulting in positive crankcase pressure. Singles will self sauce if they aren't running either neutral or preferably slight negative pressure. Occam's Razor would say in the absence of any other change it is likely that the last alteration caused this problem. Sadly it isn't that easy to check crankcase pressure on a Bullet. My mates Panther 600 was just a glistening lump like a treacle pudding until he perfected a flapper valve that produced a couple of inches of vacuum in a manometer. Dry as a bone now.
