Wheel alignment? Easy, get someone to follow you. It's obvious if your wheels are in line.

Scalyback, I have always used a variation on your lay down & squint method where I look from the front, turning the front forks to look down the side of the front wheel at the corresponding side of the rear wheel. If the view along one side of the front wheel is the mirror image of the view along the other, then its right. This method also allows for rear tyre sizes which are much fatter than the front. I seem to recall this coming up as a message board thread a few years ago and someone citing a dealer/mechanic who could do this just by bending down & squinting with his head upside down

On the EFI the sprocket side pulls up tight against the snail as you tighten the axle, the opposite side pulls away, you can use a ratchet strap to hold the opposite side firmly in place while you tighten things up, as for alignment I eventually did it by eye as Simon suggests I don't think you need to be to critical on an Enfield as you would be hard pressed to find much straight on one anyway
