I have to say that the one I heard was a tad on the noisy side. I feel I may be heading for village notoriety if I fitted one. Next time I'm in the shop I'll ask what they fit.

Hosts do a good range of affordable silencers and they add a bit of bhp and that traditional Brit sound which helps hugely with pedestrians and cars and even animals wandering around country roads. Get one. They are lighter than the stock rubbish and you will enjoy the blip and crack.

I checked our hosts' on-line parts book for a factory B5 silencer - some way short of £700 but still a financial "ouch" at £385 + VAT. Plenty of other options available, here and elsewhere. The "short bottle" Indian silencer is probably my favourite for the sound, nice and throaty without being too harsh. I think you need a 1 3/4" to 1 5/8" adaptor sleeve if fitting one to an EFI exhaust pipe. A.
