Hello, one day last week my trusty Enfield gave up the struggle and threw the towel in, or to be more precise the Con rod out. Thus I have a significant aperture in the crankcase and something has been ejected through the top of the oil tank... It's not pretty.

I have not yet stripped the engine, but intuition tells me that I'm going to need another pair of cranckases and a new ctankshaft/flywheel, other parts as well no doubt, but its the Crankcases and crankshaft which I worry I'm going to struggle with...

Does anyone know where I might source some reasonably priced Crankcases and Crankshaft?? I really want to get this old girl back on the road, but don't know where to find these parts... Please help if you can.

For info the bike is my daily commuter (28 miles a day), it has 35k miles on the clock, I rebuilt it about 15k miles ago with new big end, mains, Barrel, Piston, oil pumps, spindle and pump drive worm, also fitted oil pressure relief valve and Boyer Electronic ignition at the time. Amal concentric was fitted when I bought the bike. I never push this bike hard and was not caning her at the time of the failure. :-(

Sadly it doesn't always take a good thrashing for the 500 alloy rod to snap, this could happen on Redditch 500 Bullets too, bearing in mind the rod was originally only supposed to be for a 350 engine. Our hosts sometimes have used 500 crankcase sets for sale, though there's only an Electra-X set at the moment. You can modify 350 cases if you have access to a good machine shop, but if that's not something you can get done, e-mail me on B44EA(at)hotmail(dot)com as I know someone who can probably help. I'm guessing the (steel) flywheels have survived OK, in which case a steel con-rod and pre-fitted roller big-end is probably enough to reclaim the crankshaft.

Check the flywheels carefully to make sure they are not flogged out, if this is the case best bet is finding another motor. I'm not sure what your rules are like over there but maybe consider fitting the motor from an accident damaged UCE, from what I can see is it needs to have new rear engine plates made to fit it. Anybody tried it yet? Better chance of these motors coming on the market that the Cast Irons

Hitchcocks seem to be listing the crankcases.
