So, one year on from buying my efi, doing a 180 mile a week commute, have 8900 miles on the clock and have just had to replace the chain and sprockets ( increased the front by 1 tooth, much beter on the motorway).
had the soleniod go last week, the side stand cut out disabled within a few months of getting her as it would cut out at the lights and a couple of other niggles but on the whole, very very pleased with her.

It has had a few niggling little problems, but I absolutely love it and ride it at every opportunity. Having spent thousands of hours(and pounds) on BSAs, Matchlesses, Triumphs, Nortons and Velocettes, I think that the EFI represents traditional British motorcycling at its best, but with less hassle. Plus, I don't avoid riding my bike in bad conditions because it is too precious. Apart from the 1951 rigid MAC Velocette (which I should NEVER have sold, it is the most enjoyable bike I have ever owned!

At the risk of being a little pedantic, how does a motorcycle designed in
India, built in India with a name owned by an Indian company and an Austrian designed engine represent traditional British motorcycling? Which bit is the British part - apart from the replacement Hitchcock parts? I'm very pleased you guys are happy with your EFI's and UCE's etc., but British or English they most certainly are not.

Yep, if Electra X starts to show it's age, or misbehave, I'll be at the dealers door! As I've said on here before, my brother and I rented a couple of EFI's last year - an Electra and a Classic - both fantastic, and the reason I bought my Enfield. Photos of them all in Gallery.....

They may be made in India, but todays EFIs are still Royal Enfield Bullets in direct line of descent from the 1948 swinging arm Bullet made in Redditch. The 'Classic' model has some tweaks, but the Electra EFI and B5 EFI have a frame and running gear instantly recognisable as those of a Bullet. This is unlike the Hinkley Triumph Bonnevilles which don't have a single nut or bolt from their Meriden predecessors. The guys in Chennai should be applauded for keeping this British design classic going after more than 60 years.

I agree with Rog, the Indian factory can trace its lineage directly back to Redditch - they were using the UK made tools until recently and may still have some in use. The product design and production methods until the last Iron engined bikes were finished in 2008 was pure Redditch, and some of staff are related to the original team that came over from Redditch in the 1950's.
The EFI machines are still very closely based on the Redditch design and follow the British pattern - pushrod OHV single motor, tubular steel frame, swing arm on twin shocks and leading axle forks, nacelle, all steel panals etc, etc.
The Indians have done a great job keeping this brand alive and the EFI bikes are an excellent evolution of the original design.
Long may they continue and long may the EFI owners enjoy the unique experience of the bike-markets only new 500cc OHV single available!

I have just done nearly 600miles on my Classic Efi. I am very impressed with it after 2 Electras and an iron barrelled 500 classic.Two tank fulls delivered 95 and 98 mpg. Confidence is growing daily,now I've got a brilliant front brake,, a better rear brake with no rod to straighten,a brilliant 5spd positive gear box,up for up which I prefer, a clutch that doesn't overheat in traffic,easier to park on the centre stand,a very handy neutral light and have got rid of those "Awkward to adjust tappets" now hydraulic. Royal Enfield semm to have listened to owners and designed a great bike in my opinion.Long may I have it. JohnH
