SPELLBOUND!

Last night was spent dreaming about my perfect RE. I wanted a parallel twin, pre 1960, with clean and gorgeous looks. For once, I didn't limit it to army looking bikes!

I got up this morning, whilst desperately holding onto the image in my waking mind as I forced google images to display hundreds of images of RE's.

I found it! The very bike from my dream. Questions are:-

reliability - (Yes I will do maintenance and adjustments on it)

rideability - including things like advance /retard levers? do I have to keep moving it as I go along, or is it just for starting?

parts - are there any parts that are difficult to source?

What should I look out for if I go to buy one?

How much should I expect to part with for a very nice one? (don't want 5 boxes of bits again, did that once before, Honda 500 four!)

The following pics are all the same model aren't they?

[center]Oh, look ! Who's this in green then?

[center]What a stunner, was green a factory colour?

(Here Thack, can you do that on your bulletin board! LOL! No just kidding, this does need an edit and delete facility plus an editor to select pics and features easily.)

Oh heck, it hurts so bad, I'm sure I was born to have one.

P.S. Anybody happen to have a spare one in the shed? I would give it a very loving home.

Ah yes, 'Polychromatic' paint, lovely and nice name too!

poly....... Polly ! that could be a good name.

Mark M Is the guy with the copper beech one? WOW!

Mark, what's he/she like to ride? Well behaved, but capable of a burst of naughtiness when needed?

I am not worthy to lick the mud off it's tyres.

Yes, I admit it, that's my bike and also, me. Those pics were taken by Rowena of RealClassic at the Watsonian Open Day about 3 years ago (?) when they awarded me a most unmolested prize or something. You can read the whole story on the RealClassic website in the Bike Profiles I think it is. The bike was very original when I got it (a previous owner had painted it that charming chocolate brown rather than the Polychromatic Copper Beech it should be) and I have kept it to use as an everyday machine but rebuilding components when needed and bringing the specification closer to original when the opportunity arises. I must admit it hasn't had much use since an Interceptor came into my life so I have thought about selling.

( I hardly dare press the keys...) Ummm.... Would you really, really possibly consider selling it?

Would it be worth getting it polychomatically painted again, or just leave brown? It does look nice.

Is there much needed to get it back to original (Excepting any later parts that resolve any design faults, as in a working sprag for an electra x type thing).

Oh, what are the brakes like? It looks like a meaty (heavy) bike.

(insert million other questions here...)

It's not that far off a service brown sort of shade. Drool! I need to go cool down....

Hi Adrian.

Sadly, due to a lack of foresight on my behalf, I will have to replace Thunderbolt within a year.

I don't even want to think about it at the moment, but the words "Reluctant Sale" will wipe the existing scale off the dial.
