Dors anyone have a "special" way to fit the retaining nuts to the frame on a pair of single seat springs? Apart from stripping my fingers down to the bone so they fit between the coils!

Just ben reading the REALLY CLEAR instructions, thanks. I've been thinking about getting one of these single seats...... a couple of questions...

Is it higher, lower or about the same height as the original? How is it for comfort? Differences between the Indian and UK ones sold by Hitchcocks? Many thanks, would be really interested to know before deciding to do it. -Chris

I used a pair of long nosed pliers to start the nuts and then used an open ended spanner turning the spring as I tightened the nut to stop the spring coil levering the spanner off. Finally nipped it up as best I could.If it's the pan saddle I sent you could you please send me a photo when you have fitted it? Regards Edward

Hi, Replace the stud and use a bolt through the spring into the frame, then proceed as Edward stated

Edward, you're spot on - a long-nosed pliers to keep the nut in position is the way. It's one of those bitches of a job!!!

Thanks guys, Edward, I think I will make up some fixed brackets, considering the trouble you had with it hitting the mudguard. Also I appear to have gained a "bit" of weight lateley!
And the springs seem to lean all over the place when fixed to the seat base. Not good aesthicaly.
I'll let you know how it goes.

I find it to be a bit higher. Which is good for my knackered hips...

When fitting nuts in inaccessible places (Oooh Matron!) I sometimes find it useful to put a blob of grease in the ring of a slim spanner. set the nut in the grease then feed the spanner complete with nut installed into the inaccessible place. I have successfully fitted an aftermarket sprung saddle to a bike (not RE) using this method but don’t know if it will work for you. Good luck. Adam

Well I fitted the seat temporarily with a bolt through the front mount and a bundle of rags under the rear on mudguard. However when I dat on it and put my feet down the sides dug into my thighs. So it's back to my smaller seat I'm afraid!
