Hi

How do I date my bike from the frame and engine numbers ?

The chassis no is
E11*2000/7*00013*04

Engine number

ME3BBBSB43C013900

It is on an 05 plate and is a four speed kick start model, and has a push and turn dipstick/ Oil filler.

It is a 500T trials bullet

I would appreciate and info on how I determine the year of frame and engine

Thanks

Rich

E11*2000/7*00013*04 That is the type approval number

ME3BBBSB43C013900 That is the VIN frame chassis number Have another look on your log book for engine number.

if you have a look in the hitchcocks catalogue it tells you how to work out what year your bullet is by engine number.

Thanks for that , I was finding those numbers confusing !

I have not had the logbook back yet, and don't have the bike here at the moment so it will have to wait.
I read what it said in Hitcocks. Catalogue, but could not make sense of the numbering I had. Now I understand
I took the numbers off the VIN plate on the frame downtube

Thanks again for your help

ME3 = Royal Enfield

B = Right gear classic

B = 500

B = Bullet

S = Standard

B = Points (breaker)

4 = Gears

C = Chennai

0 = Year of manufacture (2000)

13900 = serial number; your bike is the 13900 500 Bullet made.

Thanks for your help.
That is great, I thought it was a bit older than the registration. Which is 2005 due to the push and turn oil filler cap

The bike is in excellent condition with only 1800KM on the clock
And would pass for two years old !

I appreciate your help

Now here's food for thought..

According to Tim, my bike is also from 2000 and was also first registered in 2005. (Read the original post again).

Thumper's serial number is ME3BBBSB43C013783

Could it be, as those two serials are very close together, that a lot of Classic 500's were stockpiled for five years? I thought Thumper was new in 2005.

Apparently, not so. He just got five years older...

I just noticed Tim, what's the extra '3' doing in our serial numbers? ME3BBBSB43C013783 and ME3BBBSB43C013900. Or should we have 43 gears..?
Which would account for all those false neutrals..

Oops...

That 'missing digit' (3) is the year of manufacture 2003.

The following 0 is a prefix for the serial number: eg 013900, or, 000876.

I was a bit hasty, sorry for any confusion.

Thanks Tim, that's cleared that little mystery up. So, our machines are from 2003.

Still think it strange that they both 'hung around' for another two years before being registered...
