Surely the crank case pressure is relieved via the clack valve in the primary end of the crank?..drilling a hole between the timing case and oil tank will surely increase the oil tank pressure or have I missed something?

Tom the reason for the modifications is because the original design didn't work

Tom,the reason is the Meteor was never designed or fitted with a clack valve,
through the crankshaft at least.
And there is a 1/2" hole to relieve crankcase pressure up in behind the Ex cam
sprocket, problem appears that that pressure has no other escape in the design
that i can see, apart from the tiny valve and small dia pipe under the LH barrel
which i presume was not quite up to the job.But possibly it works ok under relaxed
riding and it's only contnous high speed blasting that overwhelms the original
design.Others would know more as i've never ridden one,i'm just restoring one as
a Bitsa.

Sorry Ed,i was thinking the 8 mm hole was the one at the oil filler that
you fitted the breather outlet hose to.So the timing case to oil tank is
8 mm too, thanks for that.Got to admit it makes more sense to have the outlet
from the oil tank,i think a Bullet sized black hose will have to do as this
is not a fire breathing big Interceptor here but a meek and mildly tuned Meteor.

Colin, I have removed the clackers from the underbarrel breather, and inside the triangle fitting I have opened it out and welded a piece of half inch copper in the end inplace of the three sixteenth one and it seems to work reasonably well. I have also sealed all around the cases to stop any leaks, hopefully I will get it running today and see how well it is sealed up. I also blocked that sneaky breather vent at the rear of the cases, I'm sure that was responsible for quite a bit of oil dribble across the top of the oil tank

Right let's see if i got this right now!.

The Crank case pressure on the Meteor is being expelled via a drilling from the timing chest into the oil tank and then to atmosphere via an additional breather from the oil tank?..

What are the other options for the breather.. I'd rather do something discreet if possible than a great big pipe!..

I had a Constellation before and the clack valve worked fine.. The only mods I did on that was the bridging dowell at the back of the engine and the blanking off of the vertical drilling under the barrel.

I didn't realise the meteor has no clack valve.. Not got there yet..

Hi Colin.. The Meteor already has this type of breather on the drive side of the crank case!..

Actually that would look spot on if hidden under the dyno on the Meteor as suggested..
