Mr H has now produced a windowed distributor cover as well as the windowed tapper cover, just trying to think if there is any advantage to having one?

Can't really see any advantage with the distributor cover but I guess the tappet cover will allow a quick check of the oil circulation.

Should make an interesting light display at night. A good conversation starter outside the pub when the bike usually won`t start when a crowd is watching.

In answer to the original question, surely not, especially if you have a Boyer or Pazon ignition fitted. With points ignition just disconnect the condenser for a decent car park show!

Sorry, I do think our hosts have come up with more useful stuff than this, I prefer it when they reproduce batches of the parts we might actually need but have had a hard time finding. Still, if they flog enough see-through bits there might be the money for a new batch of SR1 magneto advance and retard units or [insert name of favourite missing pice here].

A.

Adrian are the SR1 auto advance units the same as the SR2 and K2F, I welded the K2F one on my Inter shut when I fitted the Pazon unit, but don't have a meltdown, they are only little tacks, easily ground off

I've used windowed parts on Bevel Ducati's and older H-Ds in the past. If there is oil anywhere near them they just get covered and look messy very quickly. That said they do show that oil is getting about and are a good talking point at coffee stops.
I've always thought a "windowed" timing case or perhaps gearbox could be interesting...

Any window that is in contact with oil, like the oil level sight gauge on some newer motorcycles, will quickly become discoloured, particularly if the oil has become emulsfied and turned a mayonnaise colour.

Leon, you've given me an idea... As we've recently had both the Oil Thread and the Ignition Thread isn't it time for the Mayonnaise Thread? Then out Hosts could offer a see through oil tank filler (a bit like a Slush Puppy machine say,) to watch your mayo going round? Mr Hitchcock, I claim my prize!!!
