We are not far from the hips. I do not know where that townies but judging by the amount of snow it's probably quite close. My telephone doesn't like my dictation.

Bright and sunny here in darkest Wales. I enjoyed fitting the new TCI unit, have learned the basics of soldering and using plastic heat shrinking sleeves for the slightly extended loom. It took me awhile as I have never soldered before. But that is the fun of Enfield ownership. I broke the + side battery connection, ordered it from our host and it was here the next day. A good day.

Hi Malc----------everything nice and clean---plenty of the appropriate flux----- beware of a "Dry" joint ( Nothing to do with nefarious college activities either !!)....

malc1091 does that "our hosts" TCI unit HAVE to be fitted in a different location or will it fit where the old one does?

If you are talking about the Electra X TCI it is much bigger than the original and won't fit under the seat. Brackets are supplied to fit it in front of the battery but an extension to the wiring will have to be made up. The unit does not include the facility to connect the side stand switch so that will be redundant. It does change the performance, I guess you can call it an enhancement but I found it makes it a bit peaky. I guess it depends on how accurate the timing is set up to start with.

Frank cheers for that, that means because my bespoke low seat being only 6 inches wide at the front I can't fit that unit.

Papasmurf, nobody will be able to fit it under the standard seat as it is too big, the seat won't go back on so you are at no disadvantage. It does mount OK behind the side panel in front of the battery. The other point to consider is connecting it to the existing wiring. Ideally you need a matching connector on the end of the extension cable so if you want to go back to the original you can just plug it in again. Unfortunately that sort of connector block seems unobtainable so your choices were to cut the original off and join the wires, making it difficult to go back, tee it in somehow to the existing connector or do what I did and buy some blades of the same size and push the wires in individually. Not ideal but secure enough. All the TCIs I've tried, original black, green and this performance one give a noticeably different feel. To be honest I prefer the original black one, it seems more progressive and smooth and I have gone back to it. Others may feel different depending on their riding style or tune of their bikes.

It does fit onto the side of the battery with a little extension to the wiring. Only problem I encountered was the route of the positive battery cable, which made putting the side cover on impossible. A little faffing and it is OK. Off for a ride this morning to the PONDEROSA cafe in North Wales, plenty of hill etc.

Every thing worked. Starts first time. The best bit was I purchased anti vibration mirror mounts from our host. They worked a treat. Snow and hail shortened the day. Start saving for carb and exhaust next.
