I always use a length of hardwood to jam between the sprockets. Seems a bit kinder to the teeth.

Netshubby, if you are talking about the rotor nut thread it is actually a Villiers thread, they just kept using it

I used some hardwood flooring to jam the sprocket and clutch. Its kinder on the teeth, but also the tongue and grooves come in handy when prying off covers, or if teeth don't quite align nicely. However, when the hardwood finally 'goes' the splinters fly everywhere. Ouch!

Hi thanks all for the reply's. I can easy borrow the right type of long sockets or Box spanners from work its was just knowing the right size before I start. I have a good Normal size socket set ratchet spanners and impact driver Ect for those counter sunk screws its just those extra long or lager ones I will need to borrow like a 50mm box or long socket So thanks.

P/s after checking the shed I've got all tools I need except large 50mm box so I will order one when I order other parts from Hitchcocks it may come in handy again sometime so worth having. Thanks again.

Norm, I was talking about the clutch centre retaining nut. H's call it an M12, which is the diameter, but it's a fine thread. Havn't measured the pitch. This is on a 5 speed box, the four speed I could see that they still have the old ( Burman?) thread.

All, regarding locking the clutch and engine to loosen/tighten the nuts, if the final drive sprocket is still on the mainshaft and chain connected, I use a wooden wedge to jam between the brake lever and exhaust pipe, and put gearbox in top gear. If the clutch nut is tightened first and assembled, then the engine sprocket can be tightened.

Good point mauri that reminds me I will order new nut as well mines a 2004 model. I always like to use new nylocks when refitting Nyloc nuts if I can.
