If you look in the owners manual specification under electrical and charging it says alternator, but the wiring diagram in the same manual shows it as a 3 phase magneto.



This could be confusing for some especially if they have limited knowledge of auto electrics the only safe way if it is a guide for all is to have both descriptions.



My own personal opinion is that it is an alternator, the bikes I have had with a magneto used it solely for the ignition, lights and battery run off a separate generator normally dc, the crank sensor on the EFI is on the alternator as a matter of convenience the sensor and the alternator have nothing to do with each other, on most modern cars for instance the crank sensor is not on the alternator it just would not work you will probably find it some ware near the cam shaft or timing gears they both do the same thing but with a different purpose so we can all be right

That is exactly my argument. I'm satisfied the Indian's got it wrong, but of course the circuit diagram should reflect both usages.
