Ok volt readings across the 10A fuse from battery positive terminal with ignition on.When reading across by actually touching the fuse i get 0 volts. If i read across the fuse holder with the fuse in place i get 0.01 volts. If i take out the fuse altogether and read across the fuse holder i get 14.55 volts. If i take a reading from the positive fuse holder to earth (on frame) i get 11.61 volts.
I tried putting in gear, holding in clutch still no spark.

Pulse coil, resistance 190-220 ohm green/white to white wire.

Ignition coil resistance between brown to red/white wires 4 to 5 Ohm

Between Brown to HT lead 13 to 17 kilo ohm

Just commenting on the aside about UCE TCI units... Isn't ignition timing controlled by the ECU on the EFI unit construction engines? Hence the TCI is integrated into the ECU? Or am I an idiot?

Michael this bike is fitted with a carby. I don't understand the readings you are getting with the fuse holder and the fuses, rip that cheap and nasty fuse holder and throw it as far away as you possibly can, never to be found again, cheap Indian rubbish, get yourself a good blade type holder. From memory my Electra had 2 fuses, can't remember what the second one did.

Ok so there are 2 fuses, a 15 amp feeds to the ammeter, then a second 10 amp feeds the TCI unit, either of these fuses if still in the factory fuse holders could be the problem

Hi Norm, yes I know *this* bike has TCI and a carb, but an earlier post asked about UCE and EFI ignition. I had an Electra X for a while... Not anymore

I can understand the voltages you get apart from the 14v but leaving that aside 11.6v at the fuse holder seems a little low. The TCI requires a minimum of 10v to work. With the load of the starter the 11.6v could drop below that 10v. Ideally the voltage at the fuse holder should equal the voltage measured directly across the battery terminals and on a good battery that should be 12.6v. If it is losing 1v then it must be wiring, connectors, ignition switch or yes, the kill switch.

As Norm says get rid of the standard crap fuse holders. I changed mine to blade fuse holders from Maplins part number KU34M . And before anyone says about buying from elsewhere I have only ever found these at Maplins. The good thing about them is the clip onto the standard fuse holder brackets and have substantial wire. The stopped a lot of electrical troubles on my bike
