If you read the article carefully it says "technology centre" not "factory". That could be a man and a computer and a company car! As with all these stories from India, best to wait and see!

When the indian enfields were first imported back into britain circa late 70's I was one of many mechanics who had the job of dismantling and rebuilding the bikes to a standard (barely) fit to be sold to british punters, brakes, gearboxes, welds and wiring all needed sorting. Perhaps this new establishment is the same? A workshop to fix the bugs before the dealers get the bikes.

One advantage of more and more Enfields would be more dealers as my nearest one is about 40 miles away there isn't even one as for as I am aware in Nottingham or Derby both about 20 miles from me.So its just as well you can tap the expertise on forums like this one!

Things are certainly changing out here the Importer has just lost his gig and the new importer is not going to carry anything for the older models

Who is the new importer Norm? A problem with lack of support for older machines. Is in my opinion you could be forgiven for thinking if I buy a new machine will I get support in 5 years time apart from our hosts of course? Also a bike like the Continental is over £5k and if I was after a retro style bike and not a real retro bike. And could afford £5k plus I personally would be tempted by the Kawasaki W800 at just over £ six and a half thousand new,or one a year old or even a 2nd hand low mileage W650 which would be relatively cheap and which the W800 superceded. The only problem I can see with the so called classics was quality control sort, that and you keep your niche otherwise I think you are competing with the Japanese and their deserved reputation for quality?

Did anyone see the BBC 10 o'clock news last night? An interesting comment by the CE of Royal Enfield, did I hear it right that their global base is going to be the UK, outlets being set up and engineers hired. When does manufacturing start and will we be paying Triumph prices - I suspect so. See link to last nights programme.

I've seen the article (Thanks for the link) and I regard it as a soundbite within a larger article (India's growing economy). So what do I think? The comment of the UK being a global base I think is a little misleading. A global hub would be a better description. I can't see bikes being manufactured here, but I can see bikes being modified, upgraded (Akin to what Neval did to imported Russian machines)and then distributed on a global basis. It would make Enfields easier to get into Europe and America.
