0 would indicate dead short both LT and HT side. The meter was changed to resistance range wasn't it?

Thanks Norm - I understand what you're saying. But just for the record the Electra X ignition coil is not quite the same as the UCE coil. But what’s the problem as our host’s online parts book shows that Electra X item is available 'off the shelf' for around £30?

But maybe by now the older Electra X coil has been superseded by the UCE version. Norm's right again!

Don't ignore what Frank just said! I don't believe the meter was used correctly. That coil is NOT short circuit between all terminals!!

Hi Norm, (and everyone else who is helping) I've been out I tried those readings again. (I was cold, tired and it was a long day yesterday).
Coil brown to red/white wire reads 4ohms.
Brown to HT lead reads 16600 ohms.
The other reading you said to check was Brown to red, which red?

Sorry Tom brown to red/white should get no reading, so now we have a situation where the coil looks ok. I have tried to find out over the years how to test the TCI unit but nobody appears to know. Only 2 things left in the equation TCI and the pulse coil.Sorry I can't be more helpful.On my Electra I carried a spare TCI unit and coil for this very reason. Pulse coil no option there

Thanks Norm, yes that other connection was reading 0. So it looks like a new TCI then oh bug**r.

Tom, was always going to be a problem once the Indians moved away from points/ coil ignition they have never been flash on the electrical side of anything

Hi tedmunds, don't know where you are based but if you are near Kelso in the Scottish Borders you are welcome to try parts from my bike. The next time it will be out is 3 weeks time , so you may be able to find whats wrong with yours without wasting money
