Hi,

I am currently undertaking the restoration of a 1938 S2 Royal Enfield. I am up to re-building the gearbox and am unsure of the type. From what i can tell it is either an Albion or Burman gearbox however i would like to be sure before i start pulling things apart so i can gather the correct information.

Can anyone confirm which type of gearbox was used and whether or not the technical notes for rebuilding and Albion gearbox provided on this site are sufficient for the rebuild?

Many Thanks.

Hi Mitch, yes, it's an Albion with "Royal Enfield" cast on the outside which is just a flourish, RE never made these boxes. They are very simple and although there are detail differences the gearbox rebuild notes here are applicable. Even some parts are interchangeable between the 30s and 50s boxes! Let us know how you get on?
REgards, Mark
