There is also a mod that can improve starting and another number of ailments with some of these bikes getting a bit of age on them and that is to fit a relay to supply power directly to the coil. This prevents voltage drop that happens through connectors in the loom, ignition switch,kill switch, all contribute to voltage loss due to age and corrosion, something most people overlook. I fitted one on my CB750 recently, got rid of popping in the exhaust under deceleration, misfire at about 100kph, easier starting and smoother running and the relay cost me $2.50, cheapest engine rebuild for a long time. Fitted one to a mates R65, stopped it from cutting out whenever it felt like

Wilf, it is very simple, you take a fused wire from the battery + to the relay and the opposite terminal on the relay goes to the coil +. Then you remove the existing wire to the coil +, which comes from the kill switch, as the trigger wire on the relay
