I have have had my Bullet accidently start on a couple of occasions when I have been slowly bringing the piston over TDC.

Is this a new to you bike and has been like this from purchase?
Or has it been a good starter & the problem is more recent?

Worth checking/replacing Plug Cap & HT lead.

My Lightning is a total schizo when it comes to starting from cold. It rarely stars first kick (I tend to fall over in amazement when it does). 3-4 kicks is normal. Kicking it until I'm blue in the face is not uncommon. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I guess living with the problem is one option or you fix it so it will start easily, it can be done

No Pat, you do not have to put up with it. Mine starts 1st or 2nd kick. If it doesn't I look to see why not.

Has it always been this hard to start or is it something new? Makes me wonder if any changes have been made, or if an improved starting technique is required..... I have 2x 500cc Bullets and am aware of which one I'm starting having a different feel to it despite them being "identical" (Not!)

It's a 1995 bullet and I bought it around 2010, starting problems where since then.
To improve this situation I have changed the battery (twice), spark ( a couple of times), ignition points, condenser, air filter carb connector tube, air filter but still it takes me 6-8 kicks to get her start...
