Does/has anyone on here use/d mitas tyres,if so are they any good. Im not particularly interested in longevity but more how they grip in the wet and dry. Look forward to your thoughts

I tried them once, just very briefly. First thing I notced was how small and narrow they looked, like bicycle tyres when compared to Contimentals, K70's or the dreaded Avon Skidmaster. Secondly my bike developed a strange wobble/weaving feel which no amount of moving the tyre on the rim or balancing could cure. Consequently I ditched the £50 a pair cheap 'n' nasties and paid decent money for some new K82's which are bloody brilliant, on my old Tiger 90 anyway. Ultimately you get what you pay for. Of course someone here is going to pop up and say they are superb rubber and the best thing since sliced white bread. Personally I buy real bread from a proper baker.

Personally, I favour the AM26 Avons supplied by our hosts.

I used them a couple of years back - they did look narrower than I expected but the bike handled very very well, I was more confident cornering than I have been with many 'better' makes. Braking was superb. I would certainly use them again without hesitation. I've never understood the idea 'you get what you pay for'. You get what you shop around for - and often times what you pay for good can be a lot less than you pay for no so good.

BTW - you might be surprised by the enormous range of tyres Mitas make - from maga industrial landmovers to bicycles and smaller. They are not a 'cheap' company.

I put a Midas on the back wheel of my bullet back in the summer and am very happy with it. No issues whatsoever with handling, but can't comment about how it grips in the wet as I haven't,as yet,been caught out in the the rain.
I certainly agree with Presto when he says you get what you shop around for.

Wilf, I haven't heard of Midas tyres, or did you mean Mitas?

Yep, I meant MITAS. Predictive text thought better of it.Grrrr.

Problem with tyres that last a long time, they are made from hard rubber so don't grip very well, go for a soft rubber tyre that grips well, don't know what Mitas are like but Avon Roadriders stick like glue.

I had Ensigns on the Trials and the Woodsman - got rid soonest as in a november run approaching roundabouts with moisture on the road they slipped - switched to Avons and the road holding is night and day, plus lower so I gain a half inch and being a short arse that helps. Love the look dont like the ride.
