Crank cases split now and there did seem to be a wad of mystery grunge in the oil way between the crankcase and the strainer tube. Just shy of of a 4mm hole which I was tempted to ream out but as my mate pointed out its always been fine up until now. The whole motor is spotless now so a careful reassembly and a new set of piston rings and hopefully all will be Jake.
