THE BLACK RIDER (1954)
This is a well made British film concerning Jerry marsh, a reporter for the local paper and a motorcycle enthusiast. It has mystery and suspense, as well as the tale of the guy and his girl and espionage all mixed in with a motorcycle club, an old castle and the tale of the hooded monk. It's a damn good movie and certainly recommended over the Christmas holiday. There is plenty of motorcycle action, and one of my favourite bits is the egg and spoon race where the riders and pillions ride back to back. Priceless!

The next section is a bit of a spoiler, so skip it if you don't want to know the storyline.
"It seems that Brockham Castle, on the hilltop overlooking the small English town of Brockham, is haunted by a monk wearing a hooded black robe and riding a horse that spews fire from its mouth every time the moon is full. Jerry Marsh, played by Jimmy Hanley, a rookie reporter for the little newspaper, is on the search for the spooky monk with the help of his girlfriend Mary, and his new motorcycle. Jerry joins the local motorcycle club where they have fun with spoon and egg races and such, like all motorcycle clubs might do in small English villages. This isn't your Marlon Brando style of motorcycle gang, mind you, just the local boys enjoying the cool country air on the cheapest form of transportation available. This is the 1950's, and with World War II over the focus is on family life, holiday by the sea and making all of those baby-boom kids . . . It is also the dawn of the Atomic Age, and the world is beginning to fear the unintended consequences of Atomic power. The MacGuffin in this adventure is an atomic bomb the size of a large artillery shell being smuggled into the deserted castle piece by piece and put together by a nefarious wealthy man along with his niece Karen and two henchmen, one of which is Mario, the black hooded motorcycle rider scaring the drunks and other villagers who stumble by. This leads to that and Jerry's girlfriend Mary is kidnapped by the smugglers and held in the dungeon of the old castle. It is up to Jerry to convince the townsmen that there is great danger in the castle and organize the motorcycle club and the rest of the town to go out into the full moon night to rescue his girlfriend and capture the atomic smugglers. Pop a big bowl of white kernel popcorn with plenty of warm melted butter drizzled over it and enjoy the show."
