Has anyone got any experience of fitting and using the electronic ignition kit from our hosts.. Part no. 200001. See the piccie below..

I'm considering doing it over the winter.

Thumper is an indian built classic bullet 500 from 2005. I'm not an electrical genius, so any help or advice is truly gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

Yes – fitted a kit the same as yours to my 350 classic. Very straight forward when you follow the instructions – from what I remember two wires go to the coil and two connect to the stator plate, I did not bother with a connection to the engine kill switch which causes you to make a 3 way connection and potential for another wire to shake loose.
I mounted the black box in the left hand side panel – fits in there a treat and there is no issues with cable lengths to any part of the machine that requires to be connected.
Removing the advance / retard – our hosts sell a gizmo for this but there are other ways.
A good improvement – wont take more than a day depending on how you mount the unit – could be done in an hour or two depending on how you want it to look and fit.

The only reason I've not used it is both my bullets still have original Points. My dally work Bullet I've only had to change one set at around 15.000 miles because of pitting along with condenser its now on 22874 Miles so not really found the need as the points on mine seem reliable and last ages without being adjusted or touched. Whist I can see the benefit of electronic ignition because once set it should not have to be touched also it gets rid of the advance and retard mechanism which is prone to wear Also there is less chance of stripping threads in distributor as you don't need to adjust the advance and retard once set. So if the gets worn or fails on mine I would probably change to electronic.

Fit & forget, I did and have.
Had a lot of hassle when we first acquired our 1992 Bullet, after a while I bit the bullet and slung that crappy POS points & gubbins in the bin, ever looked back.

It was actually one of the earlier Boyers that I fitted back in the mists of time, probably the MKIII version. Anyway it was quite easy to fit by this amateur bodger & I doubt the super duper version will be any different.
The kit has an over generous amount of wire leads so you can route them to suit yourself, but I have seen some awful lashups where the wires instead of being routed & trimmed to suit have merely been connected & the surplus scrunched into a bundle & stuffed away wherever

the only eventual problem will be finding top dead of the piston.


the more your of, the more you’l have trouble to adjust to 10° advance.
