Hi Gordon, missed your comment.

I guess they had taken down all the road signs in the adjoining areas, and then got lost looking for this one?

the Yorkshire film archive have no real idea when this was shot, but I guess the first season is 1940, as the insignia on the motorcycle had I.C. on it, so that others had a clue what the new colouring was. The I.C. was only born in july 1940 "The King signed the Royal Warrant on the 15 July 1940 authorising the creation of the Intelligence Corps, with effect from the 19 July 1940."

The Answer

The clue in the picture is the building with the Imperial sign, after a search I found Imperial Buildings in Barnsley not the same building but the name may have been reused on a new site. After no luck searching the area with Google earth I found a Facebook Page of old pictures of Barnsley, searching through there was a video of a drive through Barnsley then and now and as the car drove towards Eldon street in the then section there was the bank all I had to do was confirm it using the street name and Google earth

This is my father John Charles Plume (1917 - 1981). He was posted to Wentworth Woodhouse and served in the Intelligence Corps until demobilisation. My brother still lives in Wentworth and I live in Far North Queensland Australia.
