Blinked and it had gone!



It was on ebay and looked very much like a Royal Enfield Military bicycle! Anyone recognise it as such?

I have never seen one, but that looks a bit delicate for a war machine.

With the twin tube front forks my bet would be Humber. I've a pal with a BSA folding paratroopers bike which has a similarly elliptical frame but with a hinge in the middle that lets you fold it up and put it in a bespoke canvas bag. No pedals either just rods jutting out that they had cleats for in their boots.

If you capture the picture of the front badge and enlarge it, it plainly says Royal Enfield and you can make out the Cannon emblem.

Well that settles it.

I am now assuming that it has Humber front forks, and somebody has dressed them up with a RE badge. It just looks like somebody used a slightly large screw at the top only to secure it.


No idea who made the frame though!



At least this one hasn't got a 1965 frame, loads of Indian parts and a dodgy V5 !

Not that i have much interest in push bikes, i did find the running gear and brakes quite interesting so had a little read of the Sturmy Archer history..

Now there is an unsung great company if ever there was.. How many of us have owned a bike at some time with a Sturmy 3 speed hub?

Despite the abuse handed out by teenage yoofs, i can't remember one failing...

Looks like the gears/brakes are mid 1930s almost certainly a modified Humber frame.. Using paint readily available in the forties..

But who did it and why? Is it an apprentice project? or a prototype collaboration between humber and enfield..

Now to go look up the sturmey archer 5 speed hub. I always wanted one, but they were old before I was born!
